Wake up... Wha... who're you...? Where am I!?In a world between worlds... What? What do you mean?! Where's Baku? Blank?! MARCUS!!They cannot hear you. Your paths are broken. Your world is no more... WHAT?! No! Garnet! Vivi! What did you do to them?!It was not I. Your world was weak. Ngh... I feel weak...Do not fear... you will not die. You'll be safe. But... G-Garnet... Why... why, just when everything was... ok...Sleep. Awaken when you are rested. Garnet... __________________________________________________________________ The sound of silence was a damning sound to his ears. He hated it. He loved the hustle-bustle of Lindblum, how it caused a constant roar of music, combined with voices, machinery, and laughter. Zidane Tribal could never properly sleep in the dead quiet.
Yet, here he was, lying facedown in the middle of a cobblestone street, just waking up. The silence was eerie... he couldn't remember a time when things were this silent... except one time... but he couldn't put his finger on when that was. Slowly regaining himself, he stood slowly, and looked around, his eyes focusing, finally, on his surroundings.
"...I have a feeling I'm not on Gaia anymore..." he muttered. He looked around more, this times towards the street rather than the buildings, and gritted his teeth. Garnet... Vivi...
"Please be ok..."
He started walking down the road, slowly, taking in the silence. Why? Why was it so quiet here? He couldn't believe it, no, this had to be a ghost town. Burmecia wasn't even this quiet... He heard a metallic clang, and spun around to see a tin can roll out into view about ten feet from where he was laying.
"Show yourself!" he shouted into the night, summoning his Mage Mashers and gritting his teeth again. He was alone. Stranded in a place that is Gaia knows where. What could he do?
A meow echoed out of the alley as a cat walked out in a lazy gait.
Zidane stared at the cat.
The cat stared at Zidane.
Zidane then burst out laughing, dropping his arms to his sides and shaking his head, causing the cat to freak out and dash in the other direction. He wiped his eyes with a gloved hand, letting his much needed laughing fit end, and sighed, looking up to the stars.
"The others had to land here... they had to... I'll find you guys!" he said, banishing his daggers and running down the road, calling out the names of his friends.

The Queen had been piddling about in her room for the day, as the list for her royal duties were rather lacking. A whole day to herself. The thought sounded pleasant, but it was the full truth. A whole day of being trapped in an empty castle.... That was the reality behind it. Garnet stared at her reflection in the mirror as she examined the long elegant dress and pieces of jewelry she had been fitted with. One by one the accessories came off, tossed casually onto her bed.
Now all that was left was the dress. Her mind flitted to the image of the orange outfit she had worn as more casual attire before she had decided to leave the castle... It couldn't hurt to just try it on... Could it?
A smiled creeped over her lips as she scampered to her closet and pushed several dresses aside, to reveal her old outfit stored in the very back. SHe quickly took it from it's rack and changed, tossing her regal gown aside with her other belongings. Now this, this was much better. While she did adore her dresses, they simply didn't have the same memories attached to them as this particular one did. This outfit had been the beginning of an adventure into the unknown, out past the gates of the castle. Things she had only seen in the pages of books. Even her old staff grasped in her hand felt natural still. But, it wasn't very queenly to walk around with such an item. So instead, she would simply just admire herself in the privacy of her own room.. Maybe she'd even sneak out later. She sighed as a servant came to her quarters delivering a message.
"Very sorry to bother you, my Queen, but there is a citizen who wishes an audience." The meek voice called out from behind the door.
"Of course. Please tell them I shall be there shortly." The Queen replied back. The quick patter of feet growing distant finally echoed back into silence. So her fun had ended.. As she gently reached out for her former clothes, a large rumble started erupting beneath her feet. Without much more warning she felt herself being jerked from the floor as an endless black wave seemed to devour the entirety of her room. Little did she know, it wasn't only her room, but the entire planet.
She could feel herself being dragged further and further, going in no particular direction. How was one to even tell with not even the smallest shred of light? All she could do was pray for this all to be a nightmare that she would shortly wake from. A bright ray of light appeared off in the distance and grew larger as if she was drawing closer. She had almost thought her prayers to be answered, that this was all a dream and the light at the end of the tunnel to be her waking up safe and sound in her bed.
The results were very different. Instead, she found herself now laying flat on a cold cobblestone road, street lights illuminating the environment in the night and revealing her to be in a small town.. One if which she had never seen. Was.. was this Gaia? Or had she been dropped on a different world? She pushed herself up to take a better look around. Well, things seemed normal enough... Perhaps she should ask someone where exactly she was. And off in the distance, was a resident passing by. She quickly got to her feet and politely walked over."Pardon me, kind sir.. But, could you please tell me as to where exactly this is? I seem to be lost.." The royal tone in her voice caused the man to stare awkwardly at her.
"Uh, ya, lady... This is Twilight Town.." He replied, still unsure of what to think of this strange girl.
Oh, her tone! She had forgotten that it wasn't common to speak the way she did... And it been quite some time since she had used her common speech."This place is not.. I mean, Is this Gaia?" The man only shook his head as he walked off. He probably thought she was mentally unstable... She sighed lightly as she began to walk off in a random direction, as since she wasn't familiar with this area was her only option... "Perhaps someone I know is here.." She secretly began wishing Zidane was here with her now.. He'd know exactly what to do, or at the least would comfort her...

Zidane had found a set of buildings that looked as though they could be climbed upon, and vaulted himself up the side of a building to get a better view of the situation. He knelt down, habitually crawling along the building using his acquired skills as a thief to scurry quietly along the roof, keeping his eyes peeled for anything familiar. He then caught a famliliar flash of orange down in the streets, and skid to a halt, eyes widening in surprise.
"Garnet...?"
He peered down the side of the building and saw her black hair, tied towards the end, the gloved hands wrapped around the mage's staff she held.
"Garnet!!"
He half jumped, half dove off of the building, scurried over to her, and wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug, eyes watering with joy. He held her tight, his cheerful demeanor vanishing, being replaced with a desperate relief that flooded through him as he hugged his love. He pulled out of the hug long enough to look into her eyes, not believing that he had already found her, that he foundher... He was deathly worried about the others, however, which spurred his next question.
"Vivi... Steiner... Where are they?" he asked, trying not to look panicked. Of course, with it being Garnet, she'd be able to see right through him. He held her hands, his heart skipping, thinking maybe the others were waiting nearby, or searching in some other part of the town... but something in her eyes... something came to him realizing that she was alone... and he suddenly didn't want to hear her answer.

The young Queen sighed as she slowly continued to trek down the path in front of her, still unsure as to where it would lead. This place was strange and without the comfort and encouraging of her friends, made it feel more intimidating than exciting. At least before she had them to fall back on when she couldn't quite seem to fit in. They were always there to back her up.... No. She'd have to manage on her own two feet. She could do this!
The roads seemed devoid of people... and she almost felt as if she were being ignored like the plague itself. For a moment, she had thought she had heard her name being called somewhere a bit off.. but, that wasn't possible. Right? Must have been her imagination. The silence was suddenly disturbed as something from the side hit the ground with a large THUD as footsteps began to scurry quickly in her direction. Panicked, Garnet quickly held up her stave to fend off anything that came her way, only to be greeted instead by the warm embrace of a certain blonde thief. "Z-zidane?" She could only manage to choke out his name before he had begun to question the location of the others.
She felt her heart sink.
She hadn't been given the time to tell Zidane of Vivi's fate.. And his eyes were already filled with so much worry and concern... She felt a twinge of pain as she opened her mouth to speak. "I.. I do not know where the others are... I just ended up here myself, to be honest.... But.. Vivi.." Her eyes trailed down to the floor, unable to look Zidane in the eyes as she delivered the news. She couldn't stand to watch his reaction nor did she even wish to put him through heartache of knowing. But he had more right than anyone to learn of Vivi's end. "Vivi.. stopped shortly after you went missing... I meant to tell you sooner but I felt in front of a crowd would not have been the ideal place.. Nor do I see this as it either, but.. with the given circumstances I feel you should know.."
She fell silent as she peeked slowly up from behind her bangs to make sure Zidane was alright.. "I'm so sorry, Zidane...."

Zidane's heart shattered in his chest as he heard her words, but he tried to keep his normal demeanor up. After a moment of a neutral, blank expression, his voice broke.
"S-stopped...? No, we... we heard them in the Black Mage Village, Garnet, they said..."
He couldn't believe it, but when he looked into her eyes... when he saw her expression...
"... I thought... But..."
The pieces of his heart sank as he realized that he had started back to Lindblum almost directly after he arrived, talking to Garnet before taking off to get things from Lindblum, and then come straight back.
He hadn't thought to go see Vivi.
He closed his eyes, letting it sink in. Vivi had been at Alexandria the entire time, perhaps mourning Zidane, perhaps thinking he was alive somewhere, but nonetheless, probably waiting to hear from him. Zidane never had the chance to say goodbye, but also never had a second thought, excited that he was back with Garnet, and
"... He stopped... and... I..." he wiped a single tear from his cheek, and looked up at Garnet with solid determination. "Then I'll just have to get home.... I'll have to get everyone home, so then we..."
Zidane couldn't think straight. The silver tongued thief, for the first time since as long as he could remember, was almost at a complete loss for words. How could he? How could he NOT stop for TWO seconds and... He shook his head and looked at Garnet.
"Let's go find somewhere to rest... I'm beat.." he said, keeping one of her hands tightly in his hand, and started to walk with her to try and find a place to crash for the night... So Zidane could find the energy to grieve for the friend he scorned by not returning.

So much pain. They had only just been reunited and already she had caused him so much suffering. Not only had they all been cast away from their home, but Zidane was only just learning of his friend's 'death'. The timing of things couldn't possibly get any worse..
Her feet shuffled nervously along the ground as her thumbs rubbed anxiously on his fingers that had laced around her hands. He was probably very disgruntled.... Angry with himself. Angry with her. How a message so important hadn't been told to him the moment he had arrived... But, she had wanted to spare him the despair of being told in front of all of Alexandria, and with the commotion he had caused with his return, she simply hadn't been given the chance to speak with him alone.
"I'm so sorry, Zidane..." His silent tears didn't go unnoticed as it only sent more sharp pains of anguish through her already fragile heart. The news seemed to be such a shock, the thief couldn't even seem to spit out a single full sentence. His thoughts obviously scattered and hurt. And she had caused it...
"Rest..? But what of the others?" The Queen inquired as Zidane kept a firm hold on one of her hands as he began to walk down the streets, looking for anywhere that they could possibly stay until morning.
Her feet suddenly stopped moving as she came to a stop. "I'm going to look for our friends.. Please, go on without me. I'll be alright."
While it was true she wanted to find all of their missing comrades, she also didn't know if she could stand the sad look in Zidane's eyes another moment longer. Perhaps more friendly faces would help to at least cheer the usually cheerful thief back up to his usual high spirits. And perhaps, he needed time to be alone.. After all, who really would want to spend time with the bearer of bad news?

He wasn't angry at her... not really, anyways. He both understood and didn't understand why she hadn't said anything to him. He had just gotten back, and they all were so happy... she cared for him above herself, and he loved her for it. He took her hand, a small, weak smile on his face as he tightened the grip on her hand a little, shaking his head.
"Sorry... not gonna get rid o' me that easily." he said, looking into her eyes. "I turned my back on you and left when I shouldn't have... I'm not gonna let you out of my sight again." he walked alongside her now, and closed his eyes for a second.
"I... missed you." he said quietly, looking ahead towards the empty street. His mind wandered to when he had spent time recovering... He thought of her every single moment he managed to stay awake. His mind trailed to his friends, wondering if they had just thought he had died and were mourning him... How much pain had he put them through?
He cast this thought aside and smiled brightly. "Let's just go explore... We might find a friend, or even better, a way home!" he kept this cheerful attitude despite the biting depression that seemed to gnaw on his heart, thinking about the last time he saw Vivi, who was amongst the ones who called for him to not go, though he had to. He had to... Kuja had saved them from Necron, and he had to return the favor... they were brothers, after all.
He looked at Garnet, and sighed, telling her everything he had gone through... spending time with Mikoto while recovering... Kuja seeking a way off of the continent... Stowing away on a pirate airship and commandeering it, dropping the treasure off in some of the smaller, poorer towns as they passed by... it was a real adventure.
"The ship was weakened, mainly because it had been converted from a Mist airship to a steam one... rather amateur work, considering we crash landed outside of the Evil Forest."
He then described to her how he and Kuja parted ways, and he hadn't seen him since. He had snuck through Alexandria, found Marcus, and while his friend was in the utter throes of shock, he took the costume and went out, having memorized the entire play by heart.
"... I'm sorry for taking so long to get back..." he muttered, looking down slightly.

The young queen went to turn away, refusing to let Zidane see the hurt look plaguing her face. She had already hurt him enough... She wouldn't do it again by making him feel he had done wrong. But she suddenly stopped... The warm comforting feel of his hand gripping tightly onto hers made her heart stop. He didn't want her to go....
A faint smile spread gently over her lips as she forced back the tears that welled up in her eyes. "I've missed you, too.." She had often spent her days wondering when he was going to come back... Staring solemnly out her window and her heart racing every time she had thought she had heard noises coming from outside of her window. Hoping the young thief would just one day drop in to say hello. And when reality sank back in and she realized it was only the birds or the wind, she felt even lonelier than she had before.
She nodded in agreement as he suggested they just take their time to venture into the unknown town. She held his hand tightly, quietly reminiscing of their time together back on Gaia, when they had so blindly ventured out of their quests all over their world. And now, they had a whole new world to explore.
Garnet listened on intently and fully intrigued by Zidane's tale as he wove it together with words. It was almost like reading a book, and picturing it all made her smile widen. "So, Kuja really helped you?" It made her happy to know Kuja had turned over a new leaf. Even helped the brother he had despised so much. She'd have to thank him. For helping lead Zidane back home. "You stole a PIRATE ship?!" She inquired, a bit shocked at his claim. The thought of him trying to overthrow an entire ship of pirates nearly made her want to faint! Not to mention, it had apparently crash landed! The next segment of his story, she remembered quite vividly. And she didn't think that she could ever forget...
"Poor Marcus. He was so shocked he didn't realize that you had stolen the show." She giggled lightly as she rested her head on his shoulder as they walked along. "You made it back, and that is all that matters... I'm so glad you are alright.."
"I.. I was so alone while you were gone.. Everyday I wished you would come back and every day that passed I felt more empty.. I thought I had lost you forever...." The tears had begun to flow freely down her cheeks, unable to hold them back any longer. "I almost gave up hope.." Her tone was filled with regret and shame. And she felt awful for it. For thinking he was truly gone forever when he was the reason she had kept moving forward.

Zidane felt ashamed, too. How long it took him to return was insane. but... he was never one to live in the past! This was a lie.
He gripped Garnet's hand and smiled.
"Hey! We got each other!" he said cheerfully. "And together, we'll find our friends, get home, and hey! We'll get to settle down and live... actually live." He wanted so badly to put together at the end, wishing, almost praying in his own heart that he and Garnet could live our their lives together, but...
Doubt. His worst enemy. Doubt sent a pang of pain through his heart, betraying his hope, and giving him a sense of absolute foreboding that made the entire area seem to get cold. It was then that he looked up into a large, bricked square surrounded partway by a wall, and--
--all the scorch marks and ruined buildings--
-- gasped out loud at the sight. This was horrible? What had happened here?? It seemed too recent to have been just a ruined part of the village, never repaired... Zidane saw people sifting through ashes, pieces of wood and brick, to find belongings, people crying, the distant roar of what sounded like a piece of machinery fading into the distance. What..
"Looks like we just... missed the party... he said, looking around in awe. Just what happened? Incredible... it was almost like a group of Mages attacked everything, and laid Bombs everywhere....

As Zidane and Garnet walked through the ruined town, there was something that was eagerly watching the town. The Heartless had been drawn there by the despair and fear that hung about the town like a thick fog. The Air Soldier Heartless was then joined by two others who swooped down and nearly charged right into the two newcomers. They flew over their heads instead and started attacking the townspeople. "HEARTLESS! Everyone get inside!", one of them yelled as they all evacuated the town, leaving Zidane and Garnet to fend off the Heartless. Along with the Air Soldiers, who were now focused on the Genome and the Queen, Shadows and Soldiers appeared to attack as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENEMY ENGAGED!

Vivi had been walking through the sandlot, fiddling with his hat distractedly and trying to come up with a way to explain what had happened. Suddenly he heard the call for everyone to get indoors and in what seemed like a flash, he was the only kid left standing on the sandlot.
Seeing the familiar yellow eyes peeking out from helmets and the eerie shadows moving liquidly along the ground, Vivi pulled his stave out and began hopping in a familiar way. He didn't like fighting, but he wasn't going to let something happen to the people that had taken him in.
Raising up his stave, Vivi called out in his little voice.
"Fira!" A burst of flame shot at the shadows that were slinking. Vivi moved up on top of a bench and raised his stave again, preparing another spell.
"E-everyone pl-please evacuate the sandlot! G-go inside! Th-these aren't normal monsters!"
Suddenly Vivi pointed his stave at the soldiers and a spray of water shot up around them. Spinning around and holding his stave up to the sky, Vivi gave one last attack. A Thundara rained down over the sandlot with the intention of using the water as a conductor and making the attack more effective.
The tiny mage knew he was outmatched, but for some reason, he felt like he wasn't alone. So he continued to fight. If Vivi had looked to see who else was in the Sandlot rather than just assumed everyone was going back inside, leaving this to the Disciplinary Committee, that had yet to show up save their smallest member, he'd have seen the pair standing there looking at the remnants of the party they'd just missed, a part that Vivi was still a little drained from.

The Queen gave a slight nod. It was true. At least they were both ok and still had each other. And she knew deep down in her heart that their friends were alright as well. Just, lost at the moment was all.
But the uneasy feeling the continued to dwell in the pit of her stomach seemed to only grow as they walked. Something... didn't seem right here. And as they rounded the corner, the sight that greeted them was not one she had expected. Homes were burned and demolished, belongings and keepsakes lost forever in the rubble and ash. People mourning their losses and walking away empty handed... Her hand slipped slowly away from Zidane's as she raised both hands to cover her mouth and keep the sounds of despair from escaping. The entire scene brought on an awful feeling of nostalgia... When Alexandria had been nearly wiped off of the map. How helpless she felt that she hadn't been able to do a single thing to prevent such a disaster from befalling her kingdom. She went to turn away and leave, only to hear cries of 'HEARTLESS!' and as something nearly took off her head! In a flash the entire area was cleared of people, and only these strange creatures were left. And these creatures, were eyeing them and beginning to close in...
Garnet reached for her staff and clutched onto it tightly, ready to fend off any of the monsters that dared to try anything... But before she could react, a small familiar voice rang out over the empty area and the elements themselves rained down upon the Heartless. No.. it couldn't be.... Garnet's eyes took a moment to sneak a quick glance around, hunting for that steeple hat that she knew so well. But by the time she had found it, her eyes had already had to move back to the remaining Heartless at hand. She could at least handle a few of them..
The summoner raised her staff and held it at eye level as she hovered a gloved handle carefully over it and closed her eyes to focus. A bright light sprang up at her feet at the gave her staff a quick flick forward as the sky grew cloudy and stormy as lightning began to spark. And from its wake, an elderly man appeared, his staff charging with electricity as he flung to staff among the nearest group, as a large streak of lightning shot down into the staff before surging out into the surrounding area before the staff and its wielder vanished almost as quickly as they had come.
Garnet's eyes opened as her summon finished, glad that she had Ramuh to help her. "Zidane, what are these??" She held her stave up to prepare to launch another summon. She really wanted to excitedly tell him she was almost positive she had seen the tiny mage but, she decided if he hadn't noticed him already that she would save the hope of it really being him rather than facing disappointment right in the heat of battle. Besides... the tiny wizard had stopped... So it couldn't be him.. Right?

So much happened in the next 30 seconds that Zidane would later wonder if he had actually been dreaming the entire time. First, Black Mage looking monsters appeared, followed by a familiar cry of a young Black Mage that Zidane thought of as a little brother...
He saw Vivi and froze, not realizing that a Heartless had come towards him and attacked, striking him in the face and sending him into one of the nearby buildings, the walls falling down on top of him.
No way... but Garnet said...
A sudden surge of joy and sorrow erupted from him as he burst from the house in his Trance form, and sliced right through the Heartless that had struck him, then using Solution 9 on any that remained, the entire time crying out loudly as he kept his eyes snapped shut. He refused to believe it. His mind was playing trick on him! Garnet told him...
But he opened them, looking at Vivi as he fell to one knee, still partially in shock because of the sudden appearance of his friend. "... V-Vivi... Is it you...?" he said quietly, but loud enough for Vivi to hear.
It just can't be. -------- ((Short post, sorry)) Trance Form! Duration: 3 posts left Solution 9 Cooldown: 4 posts left

The Heartless, in the mindless hunger for Hearts, tried to attack the group. But between the menagerie of spells cast by the littlest mage, the summon spell cast by Garnet and Zidane's Trance, the Heartless were swiftly taken care of. The town was once against silent, but the townspeople didn't come back out, in case more should arrive.
