U-uh, Excuse me, kupo? What's your name, kupo?
Ah. The faint feeling of another presence nearby hadn’t been an illusion or a dream after all. It was very odd circumstance, and yet very curious. After all, dead men didn’t have a feeling of self, and they typically weren’t visible to-
What is … ? A moogle?
Red, cat-like eyes didn’t betray the quick moment of surprise he felt, seeing the floating creature in front of him, speaking to him. To his own knowledge, moogles were not meant to speak.
“I am Nero,” his voice calmly, quietly carried to the moogle.
What a strange dream.
Is that what everyone calls you, kupo?
A curious situation coupled with an equally curious moogle. Nero’s expression remained impassive as his gaze bore into the increasingly-braver moogle’s beady black eyes, “I am sometimes known as Nero the Sable. It depends on your … company.”
That's a great name for a girl, kupo! You... are a girl, aren't you, kupo?
Ridiculous. I should not continue to entertain this bizarre dream, the Sable rolled his eyes, the fingers of his left hand absentmindedly tapping on his thigh. He did not dream often, and this was the first time he’d even felt like himself since he became one with Weiss.
“Clearly,” Nero stopped his tapping and brought his arms out wide, tilting his head to the moogle sarcastically, ”I am male.”
O-of course! I was just... messing around, kupo! Ahem. Anyway, kupo. Uh. How old are you, kupo?
“I believe I am 23 years of age,” Nero replied quietly. This situation was getting more and more unsettling with each invasive question. He tilted his head to the side as he listened on to the moogle, watching his dark hair move about his face.
Really? Everyone lately seems to be strange, kupo... so... no offense...but what species are you, kupo?
What an amusing question.
“If you consider the very base of my being, and how I appear physically, one would say that I’m human,” Nero explained in an almost pitying voice, “If one were to look deeper, however, they may find a few, ah … abnormalities, as it were.”
I knew that... It's just this light in here, kupo... my eyes can't focus... what do you look like, kupo?
I-interesting...Which world is your home, kupo?
“I believe our world’s name is Gaia, though my home was always far underneath it.”
I see... That's an interesting looking weapon, kupo. What do you call it, kupo?
Cool! Do you know any attacks, kupo?
“I was bred and raised to kill. I’d be a worthless specimen if I could not fight.”
Physical Attacks:
Gun Fire
• Nero fires rapid shots from his four guns at the enemy, from either up close and personal or from a distance.
[Cooldown: 1 post]
Wing Slash
• The two bladed wings on Nero’s back shift, and he makes a simple, quick attack up close to an enemy by slashing at them.
[Cooldown: 1 post]
Wing Slash Combo
• Expanded from Wing Slash. However, instead of simply striking the enemy once, Nero spins to strike an enemy several times with the blades.
[Cooldown: 2 posts]
Materia:
Materia: Barrier
• Activating the materia located on his left metal wing, Nero summons a transparent barrier that is resistant to physical attacks for a short period of time.
[Duration: 2 posts | Cooldown: 3 posts. Physical damage is dropped by 25%. ]
Dark Powers:
Dark Rain
• Enduring a brief glow, Nero levitates for a moment and releases two orbs of dark energy at the opponent, somewhat similar to Gravity.
[Cooldown: 2 posts]
Chained Shadow
• Nero shapes his darkness into a clone of himself. The clone is only capable of small, physical attacks, and will vanish if immediately attacked.
[Duration: 2 posts (Unless it is immediately attacked) | Cooldown: 4 posts]
Portal of Darkness
• Darkness reaches all corners of the map, and Nero can make good use of them for travel purposes, or in battle. Nero uses the darkness outside of his body as his main mode of transportation, though he can also use it to move around during battle, or escape a battle.
[Passive, for travel purposes. Cooldown (if used in battle): 3 posts]
World of Darkness
• Nero uses his control over the darkness inside of him to expand it outwards, surrounding himself and the opponent in a “world of darkness inside of himself”. It’s very overbearing, able to break the minds and spirits of those too weak-willed to fight it off if they are left for too long. It can whittle away at opponents the longer they are exposed to it, but can be held off by a barrier or something similar. The only ones that cannot be affected by the darkness are those born from darkness, or strongly tied to it. Vincent Valentine also cannot be affected by it.

That's not bad, kupo..! Can you tell me anything about your past, kupo?
“Surely, my past would only depress the two of us. I think I would rather keep it to myself.”
Nero was born in Deepground, as an experimental test subject based off of the Omega Reports left by Vincent Valentine’s father, Grimoire Valentine. He was the only successful subject, having been exposed to stagnant mako while still in the womb. When he was born, a dark vortex opened and consumed his mother. As he grows, the scientists in charge of Nero discover he has control over this darkness; clearly, a frightening ability. However, he is still trained like the rest of the Deepground Soldiers.
Along with his older brother Weiss, and Rosso the Crimson, Nero grew up confined in Deepground, and was trained to become the ultimate Soldier. Deepground existed, at that time, as an experiment to create the most unfathomably loyal, and powerful, Soldiers, even stronger than the current Soldier program. As these three grew and trained, they began to show extraordinary power and skill. For that, they reached the rank Tsviet, the colored Deepground operatives and the highest rank attainable. To reach that level, they had to fight and kill countless other DG Soldiers, to prove their worth. Weiss was the first to reach the rank of Tsviet, and Nero followed shortly after, gaining “the Sable” as his color.
Training Soldiers to become even stronger than those on the surface was very dangerous, and so restrictions were put into place. More specifically, some of the strongest Soldiers, known as Soldier Unit 14; Lost Force, were made into the Restrictors. The Restrictors had control over all Deepground operatives, thanks to chips that were placed into the brainstem of all DG Soldiers. They could not betray the Restrictors, and the Restrictors could even physically stop them from attacking. This is how all of the Tsviets, including Weiss and Nero, are kept under control. But, the Restrictors were very cruel, and all of Deepground wished to be free from their control.
Around the age of 19, Nero is sent out with Weiss to collect Genesis Rhapsodos from the remains of Banora. It was a top secret mission, directly from the President himself. Nero remarks on the way that it must be important, if both he and his brother were sent. When they touch down, they approach the unconscious Genesis and take him back to the helicopter, wondering if he’ll accept his fate of becoming their new “brother”, or if he’d resist. Sometime after Genesis reawakens, Weiss tries to convince him to help the Tsviets overthrow the Restrictors. Genesis denies them, and leaves.
Three years pass, the events of Meteorfall trapping DG underground. Though no one in Deepground can fight the Restrictors, they feel the need to bind the more powerful Tsviets to keep them from wreaking havoc. Nero is forced into a suit of mako that restricts his power, as well as binds his arms and hands so that he can’t have more precise control. He’s then chained up in a room close to mako reactor 0, because he’s simply too dangerous to be let loose. The room was avoided because, even though Nero was bound and chained, his power was still slipping loose. In one instance when an unnamed Tsviet comes around, she experiences Nero crying out for Weiss and lashing out with his darkness, causing her to experience some of her worst memories. Nero remains chained in this area until Weiss kills the Restrictor.
Killing the Restrictor also released a virus in Weiss, which was there to keep him from trying to turn on the Restrictors in the first place. After Weiss goes under a synaptic net dive, his mind is taken over by the digital memories of Hojo. Hojo, as Weiss, has Nero carry out his plan to unleash Omega. Nero, believing that he is saving his brother’s life, takes the command over Deepground and orders them to find and collect “pure” humans, to sacrifice and eventually release Omega into Weiss, as a sort of “rebirth”. Weiss “dies” during this time, and Nero keeps him safe on the throne in Mako Reactor 0.
Nero and Deepground collect and sacrifice thousands of innocent people from all around Gaia in this time. Nero himself remains hidden, for the most part, coming out only every once in a while to collect more untainted people. He stands with Azul and Rosso as the WRO comes to attack Midgar and Deepground, but removes himself from the scene to cause havoc in the engine room on the Shera. It’s there that he runs into Shelke, the former Tsviet now working for Vincent. They exchange brief words before Shelke moves to attack him, and he quickly retaliates. During their scuffle, she tears the sleeves of Nero’s suit with her swords, revealing his tattoed arms and increasing his power. He ends the battle quickly after, and absorbs Shelke into his darkness.
As Vincent makes his way through Deepground, Nero keeps an eye on his progress. He eventually approaches Vincent himself, after both Rosso and Azul are defeated. When Vincent asks for the whereabouts of Shelke, Nero obliges him with the truth, and they begin to fight. Nero is defeated, though hardly worn. He swallows Vincent into the darkness, but as Chaos and Nero’s darkness are essentially the same, Vincent is unaffected. When Vincent steps out of the darkness with Shelke, Nero comments that his darkness would do no good. He prepares to fight Vincent once more, until they are interrupted by Yuffie. The awkward encounter makes Nero leave instead, claiming that he heard Weiss calling him.
Nero and Vincent don’t meet again, until Vincent and Yuffie make their way to the center of Mako Reactor 0, where Weiss is lying on the throne. Nero entertains their questions until they make a move to attack Weiss, which promptly causes Nero to consume them into darkness and get them away from his brother. As Vincent and Yuffie make their way out, Nero approaches Vincent to fight and destroy him, so that Weiss’s “rebirth” process can go on uninterrupted. He loses once again, though, much weaker and more injured than the last time. He limps into the throne room, just as Weiss is reawakens. Happy and relieved to see his brother alive once more, Nero approaches him for their reunion. However Hojo, as Weiss, stabs Nero in the chest, killing him, and remarks that he’s no longer of use.
Nero had contained some of his darkness in the throne, which moved to infect Weiss as Nero was killed. He reappeared to Weiss and Hojo after Weiss was defeated by Vincent in an astral form. He begged Weiss to let them become one, so that they could never be apart again. Weiss agreed, and as they embraced, Nero vanished, effectively surviving inside of Weiss.
Through a series of odd circumstances that Nero himself is not even aware of, he now has a physical form once more, and is no longer bound within Weiss. He now searches the worlds, desperately attempting to locate his brother whom he lost once more.
Hmm... well, could you tell me what kind of person you are, kupo?
“You ask that I describe myself?” Nero asked the moogle, slowly and deliberately moving his loose fingers from the edges of his mask, “I’m afraid I cannot do that. I do not observe myself enough to give you a satisfying answer. You would have to ask for another’s less, hmm-.”
The Sable observed his black fingernails for a moment, seemingly more interested in his own hands than revealing anymore of himself to this moogle, “-less biased opinion.”
Upon first meeting and speaking to anyone, unless they are a part of an agenda of his or Weiss, Nero is wholly uninterested in others. He keeps a respectable distance between himself and other people, not wanting to be anything remotely close to a center of attention. He prefers to keep himself as unattached as possible to others, as life in Deepground taught him to expect the man standing next to him to be dead the very next day. The exception to this is, obviously, Nero’s beloved brother Weiss. His interaction with other “normal” people is strained at best, his social skills lacking. When he was once rudely, and awkwardly, interrupted by Yuffie Kisaragi, the Sable instead chose to leave the area with the excuse that Weiss was calling him. Far better to retreat, than deal with something so bizarre.
Nero has no respect for human life. In Deepground, they, as Soldiers, were required to kill each other to move up in the ranks. Nero can, and will, ruthlessly kill innocent people to complete any objective he may have, if that is what is required of him. As for his enemies, the Sable is known to toy with them, taunt them, before trying to kill them with his hands or his darkness. He isn’t seen to fear much, besides the loss of his beloved brother. His dark powers, however, he does keep under wraps. Though he has the ability to free his arms from the suit, he never did until Shelke cut the sleeves during their scuffle. Even afterwards, he preferred to keep the mask and suit on, the suit further limiting his dark powers.
It is pitifully obvious that Nero possesses a heart. Though he is as cruel to innocent people as he is his enemies, Nero feels endless, unconditional love for his older brother, Weiss. Weiss was the only person to ever care for him, and so Nero returns that love. He is not afraid to show his absolute devotion to his brother in front of anyone, even nearly becoming dramatic while speaking of his brother’s “death”. His connection with Weiss is as deep as the darkness born into his very soul. He will do anything and everything for Weiss, no matter the cost to himself. Even in death, Nero’s connection with his brother cannot be broken.
...Oh, kupo... Then... what side do you fight for, kupo?[/color][/b]
“I only fight for Weiss,” Nero stated, still speaking quietly, but matter-of-factly, “Whatever side Weiss chooses, I will follow.”
That’s Nero’s way of saying he’s neutral until told what to do.
I don't mean to seem like I'm prying, but what dreams and aspirations do you have, kupo?
“Dreams?” Nero inclined his head, eyes darting down to the ground for a flicker of a moment before resting upon the floating moogle once more, “I don’t believe men like me are supposed to dream.”
He turned his gaze to his feet once more, feeling his heart constrict in his chest. There was something he wished to do, but it wasn’t much a dream as it was a mission, a fact that it would happen. “I will find my brother, Weiss. That is my … aspiration. That is all I care about.”
Ah, that makes sense, kupo... sorta... well, what do you like, kupo?
The Sable sighed, his breath hot and uncomfortable against the metal mask covering his face. He didn’t like speaking for this long for that very reason. However, this creature had more and more questions to ask, and maybe eventually, it would give him some useful information. He supposed he could bear the questions for a bit longer.
“I don’t often think about things I enjoy. I like the darkness. I like being by Weiss’ side.”
Me too! Then, what do you dislike, kupo?
You, Nero thought with a sneer, unnoticeable by his mask. Instead, he narrowed his eyes to slits in hopes of getting his point across.
After an awkward moment’s glaring, the Sable sighed and continued to indulge the creature, “I do not particularly enjoy this suit. It limits me. Nor do I enjoy having these metal wings connected to my back, though I will be the first to admit that they come in handy.” Nero stretched the wings on his back, frowning at the way they pulled on his muscles. That part, he especially didn’t miss.
“I’m not overly fond of the light, if you couldn’t guess that. The exception is, of course, Weiss. I … dislike being separated from him.”
I'll remember that... what's your weakness, kupo?
“It would be unwise to tell someone my weaknesses,” Nero raised an eyebrow to the moogle, wondering if there was possibly anymore about himself that he could tell the creature, “However, if you really wish to know..”.
He stopped for a moment, lost in thought. “I suppose I am … naïve,” Nero whispered, “I’ve only been exposed to the real world for a few days. Other than that, everything I know is from Deepground.”
N-not that I'd ever attempt to use that against you or anything, kupo...! Er... next question! W-what is your strength, kupo?
His strength? The answer to that question came quicker than any of the others before it, “Weiss…”.
Weiss was Nero’s entire world. If he was by Weiss’ side, anything and everything would be possible. Anything and everything would be okay. They could live together, happy and free. So long as he was with Weiss.
I never would have guessed, kupo! So, tell me, kupo.. What's the secret password, kupo?
“Password?” Nero asked, confused. He saw no door or computer nearby, nothing that should require a secret password. Was the password to shut this damnable moogle off?
“I believe I passed by an interesting word before you began talking to me. It was … ADMIN BLOCKED?”
Ah, well I am afraid I must go, kupo. One last question before I do, kupo. How did you find your way here, kupo?
“The darkness has always been here, Moogle … I’m sure we’ll meet again.”
